Bashundhara Kings made their intentions clear to dominate the Bangladesh Premier Football League by thrashing the mighty Dhaka Abahani 3-0 on their second match of the league at Sheikh Kamal Stadium in Nilphamari yesterday.

The clash between reigning champions Dhaka Abahani and Independence Cup champs Bashundhara Kings promised to be a spectacle of a lifetime but the match turned out to be a one sided affair for the new favourites of the league. Dhaka Abahani helplessly surrendered to the vicious attack of the Kings Line-up that includes Costa Rican World Cup booter Daniel Colindres.

Skipper Colindres stood up to his billings with striking a goal while Motin Mia and Nasir Uddin Chowdhury contributing other two to put Bashundhara Kings on top of the points table.

The match started with both teams ambushing each other’s defence.

Dhaka Abahani could have taken the lead first as they were awarded with a penalty on 43rd minutes which Sunday Chizoba was successfully denied By Kings goalkeeper Anisur Rahman.

Nasir opened the scoring for Kings in the last minute of injury time of the first half. In the second half Motin scored the second one with assist of Brazilian midfielder Marcos Vinicius da Costa Soares on 60th minute.

Colindres put the final nail in the Abahani’s coffin when he struck another goal in 69th minute with the assist of Kings’ Kirgizstan booter Bakhtiyar Duyshobekov.

In another match of the day, Ivorian forward Ballo Famoussa scored a hat-trick to inspire Muktijoddha Sangsad to pull off a shock defeat in their match against Sheikh Jamal, another title contender by 3-0 at Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni Stadium in Gopalganj.
