Atiqul starts electioneering

STAFF REPORTER, Dhaka

Mayoral hopefuls of the much-talked-about Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) by-polls formally started their election campaign yesterday. The DNCC by-elections will be held on February 28.

The ruling Awami League nominated candidate, business icon Atiqul Islam, yesterday began his campaign from Uttarkhan area. The business leader said he would make Dhaka liveable for all, if elected.

Atiqul Islam, also the former president of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), has said that his dream of making Dhaka a liveable, secure and modern city and he would ensure that all modern amenities are available to the city folks.

“My plan is to build a vibrant and dynamic city where there will be no traffic snarls, a healthy city where people will get all necessary health facilities and a smart Dhaka where people will get modern facilities. I’ll do whatever is needed to do,” he told his voters. He also thanked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for nominating him to contest the mayoral race.
