Teachers’ role vital to making ICT edn programme success

Academics and researchers here unanimously said the role of teachers is very vital to make the ICT for education (ICT4E) programme a total success.

They mentioned that the focus of the programme is to equip teachers with IT knowledge so that they can prepare multimedia teaching materials for the students.

The views were expressed at an ICT4E Teachers Ambassador Conference at Rajshahi University (RU) Senate Building on Saturday. Department of Primary Education (DPE), Department of Education (DoE) and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Division jointly organised the conference.

A large number of skilled teachers in ICT4E and district and upazila level officials concerned from all eight districts under Rajshahi division joined the meeting.

RU Vice-chancellor (VC) Professor Abdus Sobhan addressed the conference as the chief guest while its Pro-VCs Prof Ananda Kumar Shaha and Prof Chowdhury Muhammad Jakaria spoke as special guests with Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi SM Abdul Kader in the chair.

Abul Kalam Azad also spoke on the occasion. In his remarks, VC Prof Sobhan said education has become a technology- based version to adapt the rapidly changing 21 century. This programme in Bangladesh will make us more prepared to tap the changes into good.

 “Interactive multimedia classrooms have introduced a new dimension to the education system of Bangladesh. Teachers and educational officers can make the dimension more interactive through the process,” he added. Abdus Sobur Khan told the meeting that the teachers are working to promote multimedia classrooms (MMC), digital content, model content, student portal, e-book, MMC monitoring application, daisy talking book, digital brail and literacy and numeracy learning.

The Access to Information (a2i) programme along with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education are jointly organising the project. Under the ICT4E, the authority has taken initiatives to hold several conferences in every division.
