BNP ‘to restore democracy’

TAFF REPORTER, Dhaka

The BNP yesterday said that the party would take the responsibility in future to restore democracy and the rights of the people. “Since the Awami League killed the democracy and plundered the rights of the people, hence the BNP will have to turn around.

And the BNP will restore the democracy and rights of the people,” said BNP standing committee member Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain.

Speaking at a discussion at Jatiya Press Club, he accused the government of robbing 80 per cent of votes during the December 30 parliamentary polls.

Khandaker Delwar Hossain Smrity Foundation organised the programme at Jatiya Press Club to mark the 8th death anniversary of former BNP secretary general Khandaker Delwar Hossain.

Speaking at the programme, Mosharraf Hossain said, “If the people could cast their votes, the victory of democracy was certain. The incumbent government won the polls but their morality has been defeated extremely.”

He added that the government was ultimately defeated in the last national election.

Referring to the crucial role of former party secretary general Khandaker Delwar Hossain, the BNP leader said Delwar had played a pioneering role in all democratic movements.

Presided by former Dhaka University vice chancellor Prof Emajuddin Ahmed, the meeting was also addressed, among others, by Chowdhury Kamal Ibne Yusuf, Shamsuzzaman Dudu, Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, Maj (retd) Akhteruzzaman and Abu Saleh.
