Violators of Bangabandhu's ideals should be ostracised: Kamal

STAFF REPORTER, Dhaka

Jatiya Oikyafront chief and Ganaforum president, Dr Kamal Hossain, yesterday (Monday) observed that those who violate Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s directives on flawless democracy and election should be "ostracised". “Holding elections in a free and fair manner is the demand of all and there is no debate on it.

I think those who do not allow it have no loyalty to Bangabandhu. They are violating his directives. We all should identify them and ostracise them,” he said.

The Oikyafront leader was speaking at a discussion of Ganaforum at the Supreme Court Bar Association auditorium to mark the 99th birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

He called upon the people to get united to resist those violating Bangabandhu’s directives and save the country.

“I think this task will be a positive one and I’m not asking anybody to do anything negative…We want unity of 18 crore people of the country,” he added.

Dr Kamal Hossain mentioned that many people sacrificed their lives during the War of Liberation to protect the rights of the people. He wanted to know whether there was a free and fair election in the country.

"The people sacrificed their lives for the sake of flawless democracy, fundamental rights and to establish the rule of law. Bangabandhu also sacrificed his life. So, if we want to show respect to Bangabandhu, we have to take the oath to discharge our responsibilities to maintain his directives so that we can enjoy complete democracy," he said.

Senior lawyer and Jatiya Party presidium member, Mohsin Rashid, joined Ganoforum by offering a bouquet to the party chief, Dr Kamal Hossain.

Ganaforum leaders Mofizui Islam Khan Kamal, Subrata Chowdhury, Mostafa Mohsin Montu, Abu Syed, Reza Kibria, Mokabbir Khan, MP elect and Joglul Haider Afrik, among others, spoke on the occasion. Organising secretary Mostaque Ahmed conducted the meeting.
