Salman F Rahman, Private Industry and Investment Adviser to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, yesterday urged a largely young audience to study the history of Bangladesh and the spirit of the Liberation War, which, he said, was the true secret to the phenomenal development that Bangladesh has witnessed over the last ten years.

Speaking as chief guest at “Junior Chamber International (JCI) Bangladesh Leadership Conclave 2019 -Together Towards Tomorrow” held at a hotel in the capital, Rahman also said, “As the ones hailing from the privileged portion of society, you have a responsibility to think and study about it because with privilege comes responsibility.”

“It is absolutely true that we have come so far because of the leadership, wisdom and vision of the Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. For a nation to progress, the first and foremost thing that is required is believing in itself.

She brought into us a belief in Bangladesh and feeling for Bangladesh as well. And what we have become is a natural result of that. But how did she do it?”

“The most significant thing she did was re-establish the true spirit of independence in the nation’s psyche. That is why today Bangladesh is where it is,” Rahman stressed, as he sought to explain Bangladesh’s much-celebrated development success.

“Bangladesh is among the very few countries in the world that won independence after an armed struggle. It is no small matter.”

“The biggest damage to our nation was done by those who were in power after the 1975 until 1996,” he said.

“They began to propagate and led many to believe that Bangladesh was created by accident, not by design.”

“They would say that if Bhutto had allowed the parliament to be called after the election of 1970, Bangladesh wouldn’t have become independent. It was such an absurd distortion of history.”

“On the other hand, the recently unveiled book based on secret documents of Pakistani intelligence on Bangabandhu has confirmed what we already knew: Bangladesh was actually created by design. The documents show that Bangabandhu had been thinking and planning about independence since he was just a young student leader.”

“What the prime minister did was rectify and remedy the distortion of history. And, that is what made this extent of progress possible.”

The private industry and investment adviser also praised the organiser of the event, JCI, Bangladesh, for choosing timely and relevant topics, including the 4th Industrial Revolution, to discuss.

The challenges poised to be created due to the 4th Industrial Revolution will be extremely tough,” he said, adding that the young people should prepare themselves to face those challenges.

The event was also attended by Zunaid Ahmed Palak MP, Minister of State for Information and Communication Technology, Sheikh Fazle Fahim, Senior Vice President, FBCCI, among others.

Irfan Islam, National President of JCI Bangladesh, Arman A Khan, National Vice President of JCI Bangladesh, and Amzad Hussain, Executive Vice President of JCI, also spoke on the occasion.
