Poet Hayat Saif remembered

A memorial meeting on poet Hayat Saif was held at Poet Shamsur Rahman Auditorium at Bangla Academy in the capital yesterday.

Poet Asad Chowdhury, Director General of Bangla Academy poet Habibullah Siraji, fiction writer Anwar Syed Haque, dramatist Ferdousi Majumdar, poet Kazi Rozi, poet Zahidul Haque, Mahmud Hasan, former diplomat Mohiuddin Ahmed and poet Asad Mannan participated in the discussion and shared their memories.

Saif’s two sons- Jisan Saif and Mehran Saif also discussed their father’s life and works in the programme while Hayat Saif’s wife Tahmina Islam Lucky and other family members were also present.

Deputy Secretary of the Bangla Academy Aminur Rahman Sultan read out the Prime Minister’s political adviser HT Imam’s written statement, while cultural personality Ramendu Majumder presided over the programme.

Ekushey Padak-winning poet Hayat Saif passed away at a city hospital on May 13. Hayat Saif was born in 1942 in Dhaka who used Hayat Saif as the pen name. His real name was Saiful Islam Khan. His first poetry was published in the then Samakal in 1962.
