It’s good to see HP players in Tigers’ CWC squad: Helmot

SPORTS REPORTER, DHAKA
It’s good to see HP players in
Tigers’ CWC squad: Helmot

High Performance (HP) Unit stepped into the fourth day of the intense training camp at the national academy of the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) in Mirpur yesterday.

They started their practice with fitness screening. Therefore, physiotherapy screening was held on the next two days.

But bowling, gym and batting practice has also been taken place in the meantime time.

This time they began practicing on strength under the guidance of the head coach Simon Helmot after their initial three days, which were held on fitness and conditioning.

Regarding HP programme, Australia-born coach Helmot said that he has been involved in HP programme for the third year which turned out to be a new one from the current season, where only youngsters are getting chance to practice here.

Citing the names of Soumya, Mithun, Mosaddek, Nayeem, Yasir and Rahi, he said that they are the proud product of the HP, stating that he is happy to see the HP players performing for the national team.

“I’m very much looking forward to the HP programme, it’s the third year I have been involved.  Coming off the back after a great series back in Ireland, it’s great to see some of the players who have been involved in HP over the last few years are being involved in that squad,” said Simon Helmot.

“The HP programme and the 'A' programme works very closely, to ensure when they go to play for the national side they are gonna be ready. So seeing Mithun  and Soumya Sarker play at the same venue that they played A- Series in the last year and to win that game is terrific,” Helmot told media at the national academy of the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.

“Mosaddek was fabulous, but having Nayem there and Yasir Ali and Rahi, some guys who have come through the programme, it’s good to see that they are getting their opportunity in the national side,” he added.

HP team went to tour in Australia and England after Simon Helmot took the charge of the team. They were successful in their mission. When asked about any plan to tour again in Australia and England, the coach said that they have plans to tour there once again.

“Hope we can go there again, it was my first year. We went to Durban and UK because we knew we are gonna be playing in those places in the next year or two,” he said.

“This year World Cup England and next year T20 World Cup on Australia so, if we can try to arrange a series in Australia or in England we will try to do so,” he also said.

“Most importantly we need to play in games of cricket, whether its here amongst ourselves or others, playing matches is the most important thing. Hopefully we can arrange tour to Australia or other places where players are not used to the condition and living environment generally,” he added.
