The Prime Minister’s private industry and investment affairs adviser, Salman F Rahman, said Bangladesh was now a suitable and prospective country for foreign and domestic investments. “The current government under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is a business- and trade-friendly government.

Bangladesh possesses a conducive environment for foreign investments now,” Rahman said.

The PM’s adviser was speaking as chief guest at a seminar titled “Ease of Doing Business and Investment in Bangladesh”. It was organised by the Consulate General of Bangladesh at a hotel in Los Angeles, California, recently. The Consul General of Bangladesh, Priyatosh Saha, chaired the seminar.

The seminar was attended by the ambassadors of different countries, investors, businessmen and professionals from various fields, a press release said.

Appealing to investors to invest in Bangladesh, Rahman elaborated on different development activities of the government, including the advantages for setting up industries and making investments in Bangladesh. Founder and chairman KPC Group Dr Kali Pradip Chaudhuri, director of Asian Economic Institute Dr Raymond Mobrez, former president of US Bangladesh Forum Mason Yost, Port of Los Angeles Norman Arikawa and consul (commercial) Al Mamun, among others, spoke on the occasion.

Later, Rahman was accorded a reception by the Awami League unit, California.  At the reception, Rahman said: “The

contribution of Bangladeshi expatriates is unique for the country’s development.” The remittance sent by the expatriates was now about USD 16 billion, he added.

Rahman further said the country has made unbelievable development under the eligible leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

He also requested the expatriates to build up world public opinion to expedite the process of repatriation of the Rohingya people to their homeland in Rakhine state in Myanmar.

California Awami League unit president Shafiqur Rahman presided over the reception. Among others, Texas Awami League president and former DUCSU member Shafiqul Alam Refat Barkat, California Awami League general secretary Dr Rabi Alam, organising secretary T Jahan Kajol, Jahangir Alam, and Juba League vice-president Aziz Mohammad Hye were present on the occasion.
