Bangabandhu and his undying spirit

Bangabandhu and his undying spirit

August 15 is a day when the hopes and aspirations of a nascent state were totally blacked out just at late night at Dhanmondi 32 by the shower of hostile bullets. On that black night back in 1975, defeated anti-liberation elements along with their local and overseas collaborators who didn’t believe in the emergence of an independent Bangladesh killed our Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Bangladesh at once plunged into overwhelming shock just for one iconic leader of mythical stature whose life and struggle were directed to achieve our blood-smeared independence. In fact, the heinous killers of this larger-than-life leader didn’t want to kill just a towering leader but they did really want to kill the potentials Sonar Bangla.

Our father of the nation did actually have two correlated dreams for which he had lived. By creating an independent Bangladesh, he had been able to make his one dream come true. However, his second dream which was clearly to transform the independent Bangladesh into Sonar Bangla was left unfinished when the bullets of the conspirators stopped his roaring voice for ever. The August 15 is a day of sheer misfortune for a courageous nation that lost the father of the nation whose thundering speech singularly roused a defenseless nation to take to arms and put up an unbreakable shield of defense against the ferocious Pakistani Occupation Army. With the death of Bangabandhu all untapped potentialities and possibilities that were yet to be tapped is left buried under the quicksand of uncertainties and reactionary politics. The Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina while inaugurating the blood donation and tree plantation campaign of Krishok League through a teleconference from London has unequivocally echoed the sentiments already expressed in the above lines.

The defeated enemies of 1971 who went into hibernation after the independence had been hatching conspiracies against Bangabandhu because they did not believe in the infinite possibilities of an independent Bangladesh. They knew that a living Bangabandhu and a golden Bangladesh are synonymous which was why they killed Bangabandhu in the most cowardly fashion. But the killers and their collaborators failed to read the basic pulse and spirit of the people and that is each and every Bangladeshi of the independent Bangladesh inculcates the ideals of Bangabandhu and they are ready to make the supreme sacrifice again to realize the unfinished task of building a golden Bangladesh as envisioned by Bangabandhu if the need be. These anti-liberation forces also missed another core point that the spirit of dead Bangabandhu is even more powerful than the living Bangabandhu.

Bangabandhu’s daughter Sheikh Hasina is firmly committed to building Bangabandhu’s Sonar Bangla. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has already made a significant headway in this respect. Bangladesh is no longer treated as a bottomless basket in the world. Instead, Bangladesh is now a role-model of development for many other countries. Mention needs to be made here that the overall economic condition and GDP growth rate of Bangladesh is far better than that of Pakistan who we fought against. The annual growth rate of Bangladesh has increased incredibly compared to any previous time and regime of Bangladesh ever before. Just a single comparison will make it clear. The annual GDP growth rate of Bangladesh in 1994 under BNP government was 4.08% while the annual GDP growth rate of Bangladesh in 2018 under the present Sheikh Hasina’s government is 7.90%. The figures emphatically highlight the mega development of the country being carried out under the Awami League government.

Obviously, it is Sheikh Hasina’s government that has effectively tapped in the untapped potentials of Bangladesh putting topmost priority on energy, industrial and infrastructural development.

With this end in view, the incumbent government has instituted economic zones authority of Bangladesh in November 2010 under Bangladesh Economic Zones Act, 2010.Only recently, the government of Sheikh Hasina has approved the establishment of 37 new economic zones across the country which consist of governmental, non-governmental and Specialized Economic Zones with attractive packages for the foreign investors.

The government also offers 50% duty waiver to the investors in the high-tech IT parks. These zones are redoubling industrial productions especially ready-made garments which in turn are contributing to the tremendous rise in the GDP index.

The government of Sheikh Hasina has made an unbelievable revolution in the generation of electricity, the driving force of all productions. This booming sector has generated 16,525 MW as of 2018. Isn’t it a practical evidence of dynamic initiative for building a Sonar Bangla? Booming rise in electricity generation from some 9541 MW in 1994 to 16,525 MW in 2018 is just a miracle which is possible precisely because the government of Sheikh Hasina is unswervingly motivated by the dream of Bangabandhu Sheikh mujibur Rahman.

Construction of our dream Padma Bridge from internal resources is quite a challenging undertaking of the present government that will definitely take the infrastructural set-up to an extra elevated height. Besides, 4-lanes highways and elevated expressway have been multiplying in a geometric progression. Per capita income of Bangladesh is put at a record $ 1316 in 2018 and it is expected to mark a further increase and it will be $1466 in the present fiscal year. In the similar fashion, the life expectancy rate of Bangladeshi people has risen incredibly and it is now 72. 49 years while it was 61.13 in 1994. All these positive indicators clearly show that the living standard of the Bangladeshi people has immensely improved.

The potentials and possibilities lost with the killing of Bangabandhu have been being retrieved steadily by the government of Sheikh Hasina for her solidly uncompromising stance regarding the cause of Sonar Bangla. In her undaunted and pro-liberation spirit we see the incarnation of our great Father of the Nation. Not the words written on papers but her deeds on the ground speak it all about her commitment to realize the untapped potentials buried long under quicksand.
