BNP concerned over Kashmir situation

Staff Reporter, Dhaka

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), the arch rival of the ruling Awami League, yesterday expressed deep concern over the Indian-ruled Kashmir situation. “The BNP is observing the Indian-ruled Kashmir situation deeply with concern and anxious,” said a statement issued by the BNP.

The statement signed by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said it sought the restoration of political leadership, safety and security of people and freedom of express in Kashmir.

The BNP’s formal reaction came eight days after the Indian government wiped out the autonomy of the restive Kashmir region.  The BNP termed the urge of United Nations to both sides (India and Pakistan) to show tolerance as timely and pragmatic one.

“The BNP believes that any problem could be resolved through talks among the persons concerned,” said the statement.  The BNP further expects that the present elected government would resolve the present impasse in line with the constitution of the respective country protesting the human rights of all people.

The BNP thinks that the solution to the Kashmir problem will expedite the process to maintain peace, harmony, development and security in the region, the statement said adding that the people of Bangladesh always expect peace and security of the region always considering the common history of the sub-continent.
