Private Industry and Investment Affairs Adviser to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Salman F Rahman, yesterday said that only the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, realised that Pakistan would never give Bangladesh the option to rise. “Because of his realisation, we are now an independent country,” he said while speaking at a programme marking the National Mourning Day—15 August—at BAIRA Bhaban on New Eskaton Road in the capital.

The PM’s adviser said Bangabandhu not only thought of bringing independence to the country but also made all arrangements to build a ‘Sonar Bangla’.

Speaking as a chief guest at the programme, Salman F Rahman said, “Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is our Father of the Nation and there is no debate about it. So, everyone should read more about Bangabandhu and learn more about him.” He said, “The enemies knew that if they could kill every member of the Bangabandhu’s family, then they could stop the advancement of Bangladesh’s development. But, thanks to the Almighty, Bangabandhu’s two daughters were then outside the country. Otherwise, we could have lost everything.” Salman F Rahman gave an example of Bangladesh’s development after Independence, saying, “Imran Khan—the incumbent PM of Pakistan—at a recent programme said that his country aspired to become Switzerland in the next 10 years. But one of the Pakistani journalists present there urged PM Khan that he would better turn Pakistan into Bangladesh rather than Switzerland in the next 10 years.”

After the discussion, a ‘dowa mahfil’ and special prayers were held for seeking eternal peace for the departed soul of the country’s architect Bangabandhu and his other family members, who were brutally killed on August 15.

In the discussion and ‘dowa mahfil’ programme, he thanked the Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies (BAIRA) for arranging such a programme for the first time. BAIRA president and freedom fighter Benzir Ahmed presided over the discussion.
