Bangladesh has become a role model of women empowerment for the world, Salman F Rahman, the private industry and investment advisor to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, said yesterday.

“Whenever we visit other countries these days, we are praised for our amazing success in women empowerment,” he said while speaking as the chief guest at a program in Nababganj upazila.

Rahman credited the Prime Minister for this achievement. “After Sheikh Hasina came to power, women empowerment has taken place in every possible sector.

Today we find lot of women in good positions in the police, army, navy and air force,” he added.

He said even though women made up 50 per cent population of the country, no previous government had tried to highlight their potential. “The most important fact is that our PM is a woman, the Parliament Speaker is a woman and the education minister is also a woman. In every sector, woman are being given priority in the country now,” he added.

Rahman said 50 seats in Parliament are reserved for women. “Moreover, 25 women directly took part in the last parliamentary election,” he added.

He also said the recent results of the SSC and HSC exams reveal that female students were faring better than their male counterparts.

The PM’s advisor also distributed bicycles among female students of 14 unions in Nababganj upazila under the local governance support project-3 implemented by the local government division. Besides, he handed over Tk. 40,000 each to 13 unemployed youths for buying cows. He also inaugurated the Bangabandhu Gold Cup Tournament (under-17). The event was organised by the Nababganj upazila administration and sponsored by Beximco.

Later, the PM’s advisor inaugurated a boat race and laid the foundation stone of PKB School and College.
