Man, 52, detained for rape attempts on 4 minor girls
UNB, Bogura

Police on Tuesday arrested a 52-year-old man for rape attempts on four minor girls at Khaduli Village of Dhunat Upazila.
The suspect was identified as Joynal Abedin, son of late Fazar Ali of the village. He is a van puller by profession.
Ismail Hossain, officer-in-charge of Dhunat Police Station, said Joynal was arrested from Mothurapur Bazar around 9am.
According to complaints, Joynal took two grade-III students to his house and tried to rape them in the afternoon of Sept 6.

Two days later, he took two other minor girls to his house and tried to rape them too.
The victims fell sick after the incidents, prompting their families to lodge police complaints against Joynal.
During primary interrogation, Joynal confessed to his crimes, the OC said, adding that a case was filed in this regard.
 

4 BADC officials suspended for misappropriating seeds
UNB, Jhenidah

Four senior officials of Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) in Jhenaidah and Jashore were suspended on Tuesday for misappropriating seeds.
They are - Amin Ullah, deputy director of BADC, Jashore; Tapan Kumar Saha, deputy director of Gokul Nagar Seed Production Farm, Jhenaidah; Indrajit Chandra Shil, deputy director of Karincha Seed Production Farm, Jhenaidah; and Aktaruzzaman Talukdar, deputy director of Pathila Seed Production Farm, Jhenaidah.
Abdul Latif Molla, secretary of BADC, issued separate letters in this regard.
An investigation found the officials guilty of storing 129.22 metric tonnes of paddy seeds in Jashore Seed Processing Center from three seed production farms of Jhenaidah for selling them illegally.
The market price of the seeds was estimated to be about Tk 3 crore.
 

Mayor Abdul Goni made MAB president

Savar municipality Mayor Abdul Goni has been elected the president of executive committee of Municipal Association of Bangladesh (MAB).
The decision came in a meeting held at its office in Agargaon of the capital on Monday.
Mayors of different municipalities were present at the programme.
Mayor Abdul Goni earlier discharged his duties with dignity as vice president of Savar University College, chairman of Yearpur union parishad, chairman of Savar upazila parishad. He is also the president of Savar municipality unit of Awami League. He is involved with different non-political organizations as well.
 

Girl saved from child marriage
UNB, Sirajganj

A mobile court foiled an early marriage bid in Charbania village in Sadar upazila on Monday night.
The victim, an eighth grader at a local school, is only 13-year-old.
Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Anisur Rahman said a mobile court, accompanied by police, foiled the child marriage attempt acting on a tip-off.
The girl’s father Abdul Barek was trying to marry off his daughter to Monir Hossain, 25, son of Foysal Ahmed of Digholkandi village in the upazila.
Barek was let go after he signed an undertaking promising not to marry off his daughter before she turns 18.
