Tigers to play for win against Zimbabwe

Sports Reporter, Ctg

The second phase of the ongoing tri-nation Twenty20 series will open up with the match of the hosts Bangladesh and visiting Zimbabwe at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium (ZACS) in Sagorika area of Chattogram today.

The match is slated to start at 6:30pm. Bangladesh will get down to the field to win the match because they want to go into the second match of the Chattogram phase against favourites Afghanistan with winning momentum as Mosaddek Hossain Saikat said that batsmen struggle to make runs when they are morally down.

“We play for winning when we play a match or matches in a tournament. We’ve two or three matches ahead if we play the final of the tri-nation series. But we’re not thinking in that way. We’ll play the next match for winning it. There is no option for thinking that we’ll play the match for only the final,” said Mosaddek Hossain Saikat.

“It’s normal that batsmen’s spirit will remain low as they are struggling to make runs. We lost the match against Afghanistan for twenty runs and it is because we were dispirited.  I think, we can revise our calculation, it’ll be easier for us to triumph the match,” Saikat told media before their pre-match day practice session at the conference room of the ZACS in the port city yesterday.

“It’s always difficult for a player to stay in the team when he doesn’t perform. There comes changes in the team, I’ll not tell much about it. For this, we’ve management, coach and captain. Actually they can talk about it well. I think, it’s better not to say anything about it on my part,” he added. Even though Bangladesh win a match in the tournament, Zimbabwe are yet to score any win in their past two matches. So, winning the next match against the home side is more important than the hosts because they have to win the match to stay in competition race.

“We have got to win the match (to stay in competition). Actually both the games we’ve are the must-win games. We’ve a chance of winning if we do the basics correct,” Zimbabwe all-rounder Sean Williams said.

Williams said that winning will not be easier for them as there are some good players in the rivals fortress.

“I think Bangladesh is a very strong team all around. They’ve a good structure that spread at club level. But Twenty20 cricket is different format of game where you can win at any day by any margin. But they’ve got some very good players. They’ve good experienced campaigners-Shakib, Mahmudullah, Mushy (Mushfiqur Rahim). You know they all are very good players,” Seam Williams said.

“We’ve a good respect to that fact. But no game is ever gone lightly. We just like to go out for our team,” he added.
