No kangaroo in Bangabandhu Safari Park anymore

Our correspondent, Gazipur

All the kangaroos imported from South Africa for the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Safari Park have died in the last six years.

Sources said three kangaroos—one male and two females—were imported from South Africa through Falcon Traders, an animal importer, to the safari park in August 2013. At first, the kangaroos adapted themselves to the local weather.

They even gave birth to a kangaroo child in 2015. But this baby died after a few days.

In 2016, the kangaroos gave birth to another baby. But it also died also after some days.

Next year, the only male kangaroo died and any chance of breeding perished with his death. The two female kangaroos also died early this year.

Tabibur Rahman, who is in charge of the park, said the

kangaroo, the national animal of Australia, couldn’t adapt themselves to all sorts of climatic conditions. “That’s why kangaroos are not seen in any other part of the world,” he explained.

He also said there was no plan to import kangaroos anytime soon as the local weather would not be suitable for them.
