Conference on Sexual, Reproductive Health held at DU

BSS, Dhaka

A day long national conference on “Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR)” was held here yesterday.

The Department of Population Sciences of DU and SNV Netherlands Development Organisation jointly organised the conference at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban auditorium of Dhaka University (DU).

DU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof  Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman, Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs Meher Afroz Chumki, Ambassador of Netherlands in Bangladesh Harry Verweij, Country Director of SNV Netherlands Development Organization Jason Belanger and Country Director of International Labor Organization Toumo Poutianen, DU Population Sciences Department Chairperson Prof Dr Mohammad Mainul Islam addressed the conference while Prof Dr Halida Hanum Akhter of John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, USA presented key-note speech.

While addressing, DU VC Prof Akhtaruzzaman stressed the need for conducting comprehensive efforts to ensure healthcare rights of female workers at RMG industries.

“The concerned people have to take an effective measure to ensure safe working place for the women in every sector including RMG industries and educational institutions,” said Akhtaruzzaman emphasizing on creating awareness among the people in this regard.

Russian team meets DU VC

BSS, Dhaka

Counselor of Russian Embassy and Director of Russian Centre for Science and Culture in Dhaka Maxim Dobrokhotov called on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman yesterday.

Dobrokhotov was accompanied by Amatula Khanova, Attach, of Russian Embassy in Dhaka. During the meeting at VC’s office, the diplomats expressed their willingness to present some books on Russian Language and Literature for students of the Institute of Modern Languages of the DU.

BUP Int’l Model United Nations conference held in city

BSS, Dhaka

The closing ceremony of a three-day long conference titled “BUP International Model United Nations Conference 2019” was held at Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) auditorium in the city on Sunday.

The main theme of the conference was ‘Combating Post Humanitarian Crisis and Ensuring Sustainable Initiative for Repatriation’.

It was organised by Faculty of Security and Strategic Studies of BUP and its Global Affairs Council in cooperation with Unilever Bangladesh, a press release said here today.

The conference was conducted by BUP Global Affairs Council.

Former Foreign Secretary M Touhid Hossain was present as the chief guest while Pro-Vice Chancellor of BUP Professor M Abul Kashem Mozumder was present as the special guest on the occasion.

The conference ended with the vote of thanks by the Dean of the Faculty of Security and Strategic Studies Brigadier General M Siddiqul Alam Sikder.
