A combined team’s efforts simplified Barishal Division to register their victory of an innings and 13 runs within two days over Sylhet Division in the fourth and final day of the round-1 of the Tier-2 match at the Shaheed Kamruzzaman Stadium in Rajshahi yesterday.

The start of the second day game was delayed for wet outfield after the opening day completely marred due to rains. Then when the game was started at 3:00pm, Sylhet Division got to play only 31 overs.

They lost three important wickets to put on 68 on the board before the bails were drawn for the day three.

The third day was shocking further for Sylhet as they managed to add only 18 runs at the cost of the remaining seven wickets after resuming the day. Right-arm medium pacer Kamrul Islam grabbed six wickets alone that rattled Sylhet’s batting line-up and booked them below hundred.

In reply, Barishal Division took a big risk sending Sylhet to bat for the second time after they declared their first innings on third day posting 231-8 on the board courtesy of captain Fazle Rabbi (70) and Shahriar Nafees (63).

Resuming the fourth day on 27-2, Sylhet Division yet again fell into the web of Tanvir Islam and Monir Hossain. The duo took seven wickets between them that pulverized Sylhet’s glimmer of hopes to draw the match.

Tanvir scalped four wickets, conceding 29 runs, while Monir hauled three wickets giving away 21 runs for the winners. Kamrul Islam Rabbi was named player of the match for his first innings bowling performance that created a hope of winning the match.

Three other matches of the round-1 at three different grounds across the country have been ended in draws.

At Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka Metro mustered 354 in response to Chattogram Division’s first innings 290. Shahidul Islam (83), Zabid Hossain (85), Shamsur Rahman Shuvo (55) struck fifty-plus scores for Metro after Mahmudullah Riyad’s 63.

In second innings, Chattogram Division finished the day with 227-5 thanks to Masum Khan’s unbeaten 61, Pinak Ghosh’s 57 and Tasamul Haque 53. Tamim Iqbal once again fell short of fifty. This time, the opener missed for four runs. His patient 112-ball innings was studded with four boundaries and a maximum before being pinned by Mahmudullah Riyad, who hauled the identical three scalps in the second innings.

Finally it’s not possible for the Rajshahi batters, who dug in position and finished the final day with 106-5 in second innings before their second innings 197.
