U-19 team ends New Zealand tour on high note

SPORTS REPORTER, Dhaka

Bangladesh Under-19 cricket team finished their New Zealand tour on high note as they cantered to a 73-run triumph over its New Zealand counterparts in the fifth and final fixture of the five-match youth ODI series at the Bert Sutfcliffe in Lincoln yesterday.

By the instrumentality of winning the match, they wrapped up the five-match youth ODI series with the margin of 4-1. The visitors earlier sealed the series by winning the initial three matches on the trot.

Bangladesh youth compiled  316 for eight in the stipulated 50 overs, after which the home side were folded out for 243 in 43.4 overs.

In opening stand, Tanzid Hasan and Parvez Hossain Emon put up a useful 120 runs that built the solid ground for the humongous total. Tanzid whipped 71 off 59 that emblazoned with 11 boundaries and two sixes.

Even if the opening partnership was broken, the scoring wheel did not stop any longer. Three batsmen-Parvez Hossain Emon, Shahdat Hossain and Avishek Das-slammed the identical knock that lacked two runs short of fifty. Chasing the stiff target, New Zealand Under-19 cricket team mislaid their opener before opening their accounts. Therefore, they lost their sanity in the face of fiery bowling performance of young left-arm pacer Shoriful Islam, who wreaked havoc on the New Zealand batting line-up as he grabbed five wickets for 43 runs in 8.4 overs.
