Bangladesh brighten chances to lift title

Bangladesh have brightened their chances to become champions in the UEFA Assist U-16 Development Football Tournament when they outplayed Faroe Island 3-1 at Bangabandhu National Stadium in the capital yesterday. The home team led the first half 1-0.

Bangladesh were now leading the table with full six points in this four nation tournament. Bangladesh blanked Cambodia 2-0 in their first match on Wednesday.

Bangladesh were now just needing a draw with The Maldives in their last match tomorrow to become unbeaten champions. Faroe Islands followed Bangladesh with three points and they will meet Cambodia in their last match on October 20. The lone European side routed Maldives 10-3 in their first match.

Striker Moinul Islam Moin netted twice on in each half. He opened the account in 26th minute and completed the tally during the injury time. Pias Ahmed Nova regained lead for Bangladesh in 79th minute after Mourits Bisaard drew level for Faroe Island in 73rd minute. Bangladesh became third in last year’s tournament held in Thailand after going down to Cyprus 4-0. The four-nation tournament which was being held on a s ingle league basis, began on October 16.
