Robi announces Voluntary Separation Scheme

STAFF REPORTER, Dhaka
Robi announces Voluntary Separation Scheme

Robi Axiata Limited, the coun-try’s second largest tele-com operator, yesterday announced the Voluntary Separation Scheme (VSS) for its employees.

Earlier, top telecom operators --Grameenphone and Banglalink announced the scheme.

Robi has sought applications from employees for the VSS.  The operator, however, informed the BTRC that no one would be compelled to accept the scheme.

When asked, BTRC

officials declined to make any comment on the scheme.

“Robi for the first time has announced a voluntary separation scheme (VSS) for its employees. It’s worth noting that VSS has already become a common practice in the industry,” Shahed Alam, chief corporate and regulatory officer, Robi Axiata Limited, told The Independent.

“Robi has decided to extend this opportunity for its employees who wish to avail it.

This purely being a voluntary scheme, no employee is compelled to accept this by any stretch of the imagination,” Alam added.

“Over the years, it has become apparent that survival of a telco in this highly competitive industry depends on having an efficient cost structure,” Shahed Alam said.
