Bus helper held over BIWTC official’s accident

STAFF REPORTER, Dhaka

The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has arrested a person in connection with a case filed over an accident that caused a female government official to lose her leg in the capital’s Banglamotor area on August 27. Acting on a tip-off, a team led by PBI Sub-Inspector Al Amin Sheikh arrested bus helper Bacchu Mia—who was on the run since the accident took place—from Gouripur Upazila in Mymensingh around 8:30pm on Friday, said a press release.

Superintendent of the PBI (Dhaka Metro) Bashir Ahmed said, “The law-enforcers arrested bus helper Bachchu Mia from Gouripur Upazila in Mymensingh on Friday based on secret information.” Earlier on September 2, the PBI also arrested bus driver Morshed from Kazipara area in the capital.

Krishna Roy Chowdhury, 55, assistant manager (accounts) at the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC), lost her left leg after a recklessly-driven bus, operated by Trust Transport Services, took to a footpath and ran over her in Banglamotor area on August 27.

The victim was rushed to Holy Family Red Crescent Medical College Hospital from where she was shifted to National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedic Rehabilitation (NITOR).
