THE’s regional director meets DU VC

BSS, Dhaka

South Asian Regional Director(RD) of Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings Ritin Malhotra on Friday called on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman at the letters office. ICT Cell Director of Dhaka University Prof Muhammad Asif Hossain Khan was present on this occasion held at VC’s office of the university.

During the meeting, they discussed matters of mutual interest especially regarding improvement of the world ranking of Dhaka University. DU VC Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman apprised Ritin Malhotra of Dhaka University contribution to socio-economic development of Bangladesh. He said DU teachers, students and employees played a historical role to achieve our independence in 1971. Besides, DU also had immense contribution to historic Language Movement in 1952 and other different democratic movements of Bangladesh, the VC added. Ritin Malhotra assured the DU VC of providing all sorts of cooperation to improve the DU world ranking. In this regard, Times Higher Education will take necessary measures and update information and data of Dhaka University, he added.

Talks on Tagore's visit to Russia held at ULAB

The Russian Centre for Science and Cultural in Dhaka in cooperation with University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) organised an event dedicated to the 89th anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore's visit to Russia on ULAB Campus A on Thursday. The event was held with the inauguration of some rare photos about Rabindranath Tagore’s visit to Russia inaugurated by Maxim Dobrokhotov, director of Russian Centre for Science and Culture, says a press release. A formal discussion on Tagore’s visit to Russia, Maxim Dobrokhotov, Director of Russian Centre for Science & Culture, welcomed the audience and speak about life and work of the Nobel Prize winner Rabidranath Tagore.  He also mentioned that such programme with the cooperation of the University authorities will play a significant role in the development of friendly relations with Russia in Bangladesh and students will learn a lot about the heritage, culture and literature of Russia. He thanked the university authorities and the professors for organizing the event, thanking the students for attending the event. Prof Kazi Madina, General Education Programme, Prof Shamsad Mortuza, Pro-Vice Chancellor, ULAB, addressed the programme, among others.

Seminar on sustainable breeding progress in cereal crops held at BSMRAU

A daylong seminar on ‘Genomics and high-throughput phenotyping for sustainable breeding progress in cereal crops’ held at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University (BSMRAU) auditorium recently, says a press release. Vice-Chancellor of the university Prof Md Giashuddin Miah was present as chief guest and Treasurer of the university Prof Tofayel Ahamed was present as special guest in the occasion. Prof Dr Jens Leon, Plant breeding and biotechnology department of University of Bonn, Germany delivered a research papers on ‘cross breeding research at the university of Bonn case studies for improving drought stress tolerance in barley and yield in wheat’and Dr Agim Ballvora, Senior Scientist, Plant breeding and biotechnology department University of Bonn also presentedaresearch papers on ‘breeding secures sustainable wheat productivity’at the seminar as speaker. Prof Dr Md Ruhul Amin, director (Outreach Centre) was presided over the seminar. Teachers, students were present in the seminar.
