Man crushed under train

UNB, Dinajpur

A sexagenarian man was crushed under the wheels of a train  near  Bajnahar rail gate in Farakkabad 2 union of  Birol upazila here yesterday.

The deceased was identified as Seraj Uddin, 65, son of late Gofer Uddin of Taiyabpur village in Farakkabad union.

According to locals, the man was crushed under the wheels of ‘Drutojan Express’ while walking on the rail track.

Confirming the incident, Nasim Habib, officer-in-charge of Birol police station, said GRP police recovered the body and sent it to the morgue.

Arms ‘peddler’ held with arms, ammo in C'nawabganj

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested an alleged top arms peddler with three foreign made pistols, one shooter gun, three magazines and seven rounds of bullet from Chowdala Bridge area under Gomostapur upazila in Chapainawabganj district on Monday evening.

The arrested person was identified as Md Abdus Samad, 30, son of late Abdul Shurdi of

Dasimoni Kathal village under Gomostapur upazila of the district.  RAB said, acting on secret information, an operation team of RAB-5 from Chapainawabganj camp raided the aforesaid area at around 5.20 pm and arrested Samad with the arms and ammunition.

Later the arrestee was handed over Gomostapur Police Staion with a case. A case was filed in this connection.

Man awarded life term

for raping a girl

A Tangail court sentenced a man to life term imprisonment for raping a girl in Tangail town in 2018.

The lifer is Meer Jubaraj, 40, son of late Khondoker Motiur Rahman of village Meer Kumulli under Delduwar Upazila in the district.

Women and Children Repression Prevention Court of  KhaledaYeasmin delivered the verdict on Monday afternoon.   The court also fined him Taka 1 lakh , in default, he is to suffer another one year in jail.  According to prosecution, accused Meer Jubaraj was a tenant of the victim’s house in Tangail town.
