2 Ansar men injured in ‘accidental discharge’ of shotgun

UNB,  Sirajganj

Two Ansar members suffered gunshot wounds in what appears to be an 'accidental discharge' of a shotgun at Raipur Moholla in the municipality area on Sunday.

The injured were identified as Obaidullah, 33, assistant platoon commander and Ansar member Matiur Rahman, 35. Both of them were posted at Shahzadpur Rabindra University. Platoon Commander Akmal Hossain said several gunshots were heard from a police van heading towards the police lines. "Later, we found the two injured Ansar members," he said. The injured were taken to Sirajganj 250-bed Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib specialised hospital.

Constable Rezaul Karim, who was in van, said there was a shotgun and a gas gun in the back side of the vehicle. "There were accidental discharges from the shotgun after the vehicle shook," he said.

2 students killed in road crash

Two students were killed as a bus hit their motorbike in Balizuri Dargabari intersection area under Madarganj upazila of the district yesterday morning.

The deceased were identified as Zahidul Islam, 16, a student of Madarganj Sun Shine School and son of Geda Miah of Junail Sutarpara village and Juwel Rana, 16, a student of Balizuri FM High School and son of Ruhul Amin of Balizuri Purbapara village of the upazila. They were SSC examinees this year. Officer-in-charge of Madarganj Police Station Md Rafiqul Islam said the accident occurred in the area when the Dhaka-bound bus hit the bike from opposite direction, leaving two bike riders dead on the spot A case was filed in this connection.

One held with illegal arms

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-13) arrested an alleged top terrorist with illegal arms and ammunition from village Taluk Polashi in Aditmari upazila of Lalmonirhat on Saturday at midnight.

“On a tip off, a special operational team of RAB-13 conducted a raid there and arrested the terrorist with arms and ammunition,” said a press release issued by Media Officer of RAB-13 Major Galib Muhammad Natikur Rahman here today.

The arrested listed terrorist is Shariful Islam, 32, son of Yakub Ali of village Taluk Polashi in Aditmari upazila of Lalmonirhat district. The elite force seized a foreign-made pistol with two rounds of live bullets and a magazine, two mobile phone sets and two SIM cards from Shariful’s possession. During interrogation, arrested Shariful admitted his involvement in drug and illegal arms trading and terrorist activities for a long and several criminal cases are pending against him with different police stations.
