Dengue death toll hits 133

STAFF REPORTER, Dhaka

The health department yesterday confirmed another four deaths from dengue fever, bringing the total number of fatalities in the country to 133 since January this year. The disease, however, was first detected in the country back in 2000, while at least 93 people died. “The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has so far this year analysed 211 out of 264 cases of death and confirmed 133 deaths to have been caused by the disease,” said Dr Ayesha Akhter, in-charge of the disease control room at DGHS. Meanwhile, the number of dengue patients admitted to the different hospitals across the country has shown an upward trend. According to the DGHS data, a total of 67 dengue patients got admitted to various hospitals across the country in the last 24 hours, while the number of admission on Sunday was 62, on Saturday was 46, and on Friday, it was 43.
