IEDCR asks not to visit affected countries

BSS, Dhaka

The Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) has asked the concerned people not to visit the corona virus affected countries, otherwise there is any urgency. IEDCR Director Professor Dr Meerjady Sabrina Flora made this request while addressing a regular press briefing at the Institute yesterday morning.

“It is necessary to be cautious before travelling to any country… the number of corona virus patients has abruptly increased now outside the mainland China, she said, adding that the infection has spread among the people who never visited the China.” Bangladesh is still free from corona virus, Dr Sabrina said, adding that the country has the capacity to face attack of the disease.

In Singapore, so far, 89 people affected with corona virus and five of them are Bangladeshis, said the IEDCR official, adding that among the five Bangladeshi nationals, one remained in the ICU and four others are being treated in hospital.

The spread of the COVID-19 has intensified around the world, with South Korean cases more than doubling to reach 433 – the highest number outside of China. The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that the window of opportunity to stem the deadly epidemic was “narrowing” amid concern about a surge in cases with no clear link to China.
