Rangpur move into semis

SPORTS REPORTER, Dhaka

Rangpur Division moved into the semifinal of the ongoing Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib Gold Cup Under-17 National Football Championship eliminating Barishal Division by 5-0 yesterday.

Held at the Physical Education College Ground in the capital, in the last match of their group leg, Rangpur Division overpowered their Barisal counterparts and they will face Dhaka Division in the first semifinal and Khulna will take on Chottagram Division in the second semifinal.

Meanwhile, Dhaka Division moved into the semifinal with a hard fought solitary goal win against Rajshahi Division and Khulna Division also made their semifinal berth after a closely contested 1-0 win over Mymensingh Division in their respective group last match.     

Meanwhile, the preliminary phase of the Bangamata Under-17 tournament was started in April 2019 across the country with 581 teams in district, 68 teams in divisional and eight teams in the national stage participated involving 11826 players.

Eight divisional champions of both boys’ and girls’ teams are competing in the final phase when the finals of the both boys and girls will be held at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on February 29.

All the semifinals of boys and girls will take place today at the BNS with in the boys’ semifinal Chottogram Division will take on Mymensigh in the first semis when Barisal and Khulna will take on each other in the second semifinal.

Meanwhile, it is the first edition of the Bangamata Bagum Fazilatunnesa Under-17 girls and the second edition of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman boys’ Under-17 competition.
