“Teachers: Leading in crisis, reimagining the future.”

The World Teachers Day is a special day which is celebrated in different countries of the world to express respect, honour and love towards teachers. It is also known as International Teachers Day. It is extremely important to acknowledge the contribution of teachers towards the society at large. This day is an opportunity for the students to express their feelings to their teachers.
Teachers’ day was observed on various days in different countries around the world. In most countries the teacher’s day was observed remembering contribution of a person of educational repute. In Argentina, teacher’s day was observed on 11 September on the occasion of death anniversary of Domingo Faustino Sarmento. India celebrated teacher’s day on 5 September on the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan. However, United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) declared and recognized 5 October as World Teacher’s Day in 1994. Now, more than 200 countries of the world observe World Teacher’s Day with the theme declared by UNESCO. For 2019, the theme was “Young Teachers; The future of the professions”. This year the theme is “Teachers: Leading in crisis, reimagining the future.”
Teachers help the children in every step from the very beginning of life. In pre-school and kindergarten, the teachers often engage in word play, sing a song, make up rhymes, and even help in taking breakfast. The teachers rehearse the children on vital habits such as how to speak, how to learn, how to write, how to behave with others, etc. So, the initial attitude and behaviour of children are built up from the teachers. The language and literacy skill of children come mostly from his/her teachers.
Now-a-days, teaching and learning takes place in many forms. The rapid growth of internet and technology has given us a lot of digital instruments to ensure that teaching and learning continues long after we have left the traditional school building. But these modes of learning are not so effective for the students like classes in school. Teacher’s lecture in class can make any topic easy to understand.
Teachers perform a lot to keep our world civilized and educated. They teach the children from pre-primary school to higher education. They guide their students at every age from childhood to maturity. They are the chief architect of the future citizen of a country. The teachers are always unselfish to his profession. During the Covid-19 crisis, the teachers continue their classes through online.
Teaching is a special occupation. Teachers teach their students who become responsible pillars of society in future like doctors, engineers, argiculturists, teachers, architects, chartered accountant, etc. So, students are the backbone of a nation. Today’s students are tomorrow’s citizen. The teacher has immense contribution to convert a student to a responsible citizen. Teachers are work hard to educate the students despite of their relatively low pay compared to other profession.
Teacher-student relationship is one of the sweetest relations in the world. The students follow the advice and guidelines of the teachers which help them pursue bright career. The teachers teach the students about self-discipline, self-defense, self-presentation, mould their character for the upcoming life ahead.
A teacher is a friend, a philosopher, a guide, a trainer to his/her students. He/she can hold the hand, open mind and touch the heart of a children. The contribution of a teacher from the very beginning of life to maturity cannot be ignored at all. Teaching is the most influential job in the world. Teachers are known to shape the mind of youth with knowledge and skill and without knowledge no one can exist in this world. The role of teachers in nation building is inevitable. Most of the countries of the world respect teachers above of all professionals.
Teacher’s day is celebrated to show gratitude and acknowledge the role of the teachers in our life. A teacher plays a pivotal role in moulding personality of a person. Presently, teaching pattern has been shifted to digital learning since it is the era of technology. But we cannot undermine the importance and contribution of teachers in our life.
Teacher’s day allows students, parents and community members to show their appreciation for teachers. It is a unique platform where every student has the scope to wish their teachers good. On this day, we should show our utmost gratitude, sincere love and honor towards all the teachers of the world. Happy Teachers Day!
