95th anniv of Rossotrudnichestvo held

Russian Center for Science and Culture (RCSC) in Dhaka hosted a solemn online meeting to celebrate the 95th anniversary of Rossotrudnichestvo on December 5, according to a press release.

Professor Dr Md Israfil Shahin, Department of Theatre and Performance Studies, Dhaka University along with representatives of media, NGOs and students from different universities of the capital took part in the virtual program.

Director of the RCSC in Dhaka, Maxim Dobrokhotov shared the historical path of Rossotrudnichestvo since the foundation of the All-Russian Society for Cultural Relations with Abroad (VOKS) in 1925 and the main directions of Rossotrudnichestvo's activities at present. As an example of one of the first VOKS projects related to the development of friendly ties with the Bangladeshis was the preparation and implementation of the visit to Soviet Russia in September 1930 of the outstanding poet, writer, musician and philosopher Rabindranath Tagore.

The Director also said the participants about main RCSC’s programs and the most significant events held in 2020. Notable events at the Center this year were various meetings marking the 75th anniversary of the Victory in Great Patriotic War by the Russian people, the 90th anniversary of the Rabindranath Tagore's visit to Russia, the National Day of Russia and celebrating the birth anniversaries of the famous Russian Literary Persons such F. M. Dostoevsky, Lev Tolstoy, Anna Akhmatova, Vladimir Mayakovsky, Sergei Yesenin and notable Russian scientists and other Great Personalities. 

Issues of cooperation between Russia and Bangladesh in the field of higher education were discussed as well. 

The Head of the RCSC in Dhaka also noted that due to the global coronavirus epidemic, the events were not held as expected and were organized online. He especially thanked all participants of the RCSC’s programs and the media representatives for promoting its activities, expressing hope for such fruitful cooperation in the future. 

Professor Dr Md Israfil Shahin pointed out that organizing such events the Russian Center for Science and Culture would help to strengthen the social and cultural ties between the two countries.
