Stamford University English Department Holds Virtual Freshman Orientation

Country’s leading private educational institution Stamford University Bangladesh welcomed the new students to English Department. They got admitted into undergraduate program for Summer 2021 amid the current pandemic crisis.

The department organised a virtual “Freshman Orientation” program on 13 June at 4 pm and welcomed the students (English 75 & 76 batch) through a ZOOM meeting.

About 28 students attended the program and got the fresh idea about the academic, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities of the department.

Sheikh Nahid Neazy, associate professor and chair of the department, delivered his welcome speech advising the students to keep abreast of ‘new normal’ academic environment and try to develop some essential skills to face new challenges in the post-pandemic world.

English Department coordinators Fatima Tabsun and Farhana Ferdouse (assistant professors) discussed various rules and registration process at university while Mohammad Azizul Haque, associate professor and student affairs coordinator, talked about the purpose of studying English in post-colonial Bangladesh and its futuristic views relating to real life.

Among others, Sayma Arju (associate professor), Mirza Adwit Rahman (assistant proctor and assistant professor), Md Minhajul Abedin (assistant professor and coordinator, Stamford English Language Forum), Afsana Lailac (assistant professor and coordinator, Stray Bird – a literary & cultural wing), Farhana Ahasan (assistant professor) and Zobaida Nasree (lecturer) also spoke on the occasion.

However, the virtual program ended with few students, from the new batch, sharing their first ever experience of attending online classes and dealing with stress during Covid-19 pandemic.
