Mashrafe begins practice to get back his bowling form

Pace bowler Mashrafe Bin Mortaza started practice session today as part of his preparation to return to the cricket with the upcoming Bangladesh Primer League (BPL).

The former Bangladesh captain will play for Dhaka franchise in this BPL. However as he was away from the cricket for a long time, Mashrafe thinks he needs to bring back his bowling 'rhythm' (form) first.

"I did not bowl will full run up, just bowling with short run up and so it is not right moment to make comment on my bowling," Mashrafe said here today.

"I am in the process of rehabilitation. Maybe next week I will understand  if I can bowl in the full run up. Hopefully it won't take long to get the
rhythm back since fitness is ok. The sooner I can bowl with the full run up, the better. That too depends on the condition of the back pain.

After about four months, Mashrafe was seen with the ball in his hand. The last time he bowled was in September. He has already retired from Tests and T20s but he has not retired from ODIs.

For now, Mashrafe spends his time in politics. With the upcoming BPL he
will be back to the competitive cricket. However, the former captain said
that he had received the offer to play BCL one-day for starting from January
9, but was not sure as he was in rehabilitation.

"I am not sure if I will play in the BCL," he said. "I have a little back
pain. I came here today after a long time. It may take a while. There is BPL
and so I started slowly. Everything will depend on the condition of my back

Mashrafe will play for Dhaka in BPL this time. National ODI captain Tamim
Iqbal and T20 captain Mahmudullah Riyad will also play in the same team.

Mashrafe last played any competitive cricket on December 18, 2020 in the
final of Bangabandhu T20 Cup.
