Properties worth more than Tk 27 crore were damaged in 415 fire accidents in Barishal division from January to October 31, 2020.
Due to these accidents, properties worth Tk 27, 21, 82,000 were damaged while properties worth Tk 52.68 crore were saved by timely actions taken by firefighters of the division and one person died and another was severely injured.
ABM Mamatajuddin Ahmmad, deputy director of Barishal divisional fire service and civil defence directorate, disclosed the facts on Friday.
Besides, in 236 road and marine accidents, 78 victims died, 401 people injured during this period in the division, fire service and civil defence sources added.
In six districts of the division, there are 38 fire service and civil defence stations, including three A-grade, 23 B-grade and 12 C-grade stations.
Government took special projects planned to increase the numbers of fire service and civil defence stations to more than seven hundred in the country.
In addition to that, fire service and civil defence members also had taken part in rescue operations of different natural calamities and accidents in this riverine disaster-prone region.
They also had taken different types of awareness campaign and training programmes for rescuing and preventing those accidents, fire service and civil defence sources added.
