Pro-BNP panel sweeps Rajshahi Advocates Bar Association polls

Pro-BNP candidates clinched landslide victory defeating ruling Awami League backed candidates in Rajshahi Advocates Bar Association elections held in the division city on Thursday.
The Jatiyatabadi Lawyers United Council grabbed 20 posts including president and general secretary out of total 21 posts while pro-Awami League and left leaning parties Combined Lawyers Coordinated panel got only one post of executive member.
Advocates Mozammel Haque and Parvez Taufiq Zahedy were elected president and general secretary respectively.
Chief Election Commissioner of the elections Advocate Sheikh Jahangir Alam Selim declared the results Thursday night.
President candidate Advocate Mozammel Haque got 322 votes while his rival Advocate Entazul Haque Babu got 203 votes. Advocate Parvez Taufiq Zahedy, who won the post of General Secretary, bagged 350 votes while his rival Advocate Shariful Islam Sharif got 179 votes.
Advocate AKM Mizanur Rahman, Advocate Mahbubul Islam and Advocate Abu Mohammad Selim won the posts of vice-presidents.
Advocate Atiqur Rahman Iti and Nur-e Kamruzzaman Iran won the positions of joint secretaries. The Other office bearers are Advocate Selim Reza Masum (Treasurer), Advocate Riaz Uddin (Library Secretary), Advocate Azimush San Ujjwal (Audit Secretary), Advocate Mozammel Haque (Press and Information Secretary) and Advocate Rajab Ali (Magazine and Culture Secretary).
Executive members elected from pro-BNP panel are Advocate Aftabur Rahman, Advocate Saidur Rahman, Advocate Amjad Hossain, Advocate Rakibul Islam Rakib, Advocate Hasanul Banna Sohag, Advocate Sifat Jerin Tuli and Advocate Abdul Sekul.
Advocate Rakibul Hasan Rokon representing pro-Awami League panel won the executive member position.
A total of 544 voters out of 588 cast their votes in the lawyers association polls.
