Shahadat Hossain urges BCB to reduce ban

Shahadat Hossain, the Bangladesh pacer, applied to the Bangladesh Cricket Board recently to reduce his ban so that he can make a comeback to competitive cricket.

Shahadat was handed a five-year ban (with two years suspended) and fined Taka 3 lakh for assaulting teammate Arafat Sunny during a match in the last edition of the National Cricket League.

The incident took place during the second day's play between Dhaka Division and Khulna Division at the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna. Shahadat told Cricbuzz, on Saturday (February 27), that he had applied to the board as he is desperate to make a return so that he can pay for the bills of his ailing mother, who is suffering from cancer.

"I applied to the board to reduce my ban recently and now the rest depends on them,'' said Shahadat.

"I need to make a comeback into competitive cricket as I have to foot the medical bills of my mother who is suffering from cancer,'' he said.

"Apart from cricket I don't know any other thing to do and I am repentant for my mistake and insisted that further if BCB receives any kind of complaint regarding me, then I won't show my face,'' he said.

The veteran pace bowler was asked to leave the academy premises on Saturday when he was acting as a net bowler to some of his former teammates.

"I did not know that I cannot bowl. I went there and was acting as a net bowler and suddenly the chief curator Gamini asked me to leave the premises. I could not hold my tears when I was asked to leave the ground as there were several net bowlers who are yet to feature in any kind of tournament while I had the privilege to have my name on the Lord's honours board,'' he said. "It's written in my destiny and I have to live with it."

Shahadat has played 38 Tests and 51 ODIs for Bangladesh apart from six T20Is and has 123 wickets to show for. He had been suspended earlier as well after he allegedly tortured his house help.
