Agriculture Minister Dr Abdur Razzaque has said Bangladesh was once known as a country of food scarcity and famine, but now that situation is no more.
Bangladesh is now self-sufficient in food under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The Prime Minister has shown the world that Bangladesh is not ‘a bottomless basket’, the refrain used by Henry Kissinger, ex-US Secretary of State, shortly after the country’s birth. Rather, the basket of Bangladesh now is full of food.
In Bangladesh no one is hungry now, there is no food scarcity.
He was speaking as the chief guest at the Greater Mymensingh Society (Banasree-Aftab Nagar) gathering at Aftab Nagar in Dhaka on Friday evening.
He also said, demand for coarse rice is declining as the country has become self-sufficient in food and people's purchasing power increased.
