Colourful Rangpur roads marking golden jubilee of independence

Four important roads at different points have been painted in ‘Alpana’ colours giving Rangpur city colourful looks marking celebrations of the golden jubilee of independence.

Under a special initiative taken by the district administration, the Bangabandhu Road, Collectorate Surovi Udyan Road, Town Hall Chattar Road and Stadium Road have been painted in Alpana colours in the city.

Under the overall management of a voluntary organisation ‘We for Them’, its volunteers and artists completed painting the four roads of Rangpur city with the touch of paint brushes on Wednesday.

Around one-hundred artists and volunteers of the organisation worked with brushes from Wednesday noon to midnight with the theme of “Rangpur will be colourful” and completed the task.

Painters of the District Fine Arts Academy also took part in the ‘Alpana’ painting works.

The artists and volunteers worked abiding by the health directives and hygiene rules including wearing face masks in the wake of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

People from different walks of life, mostly students of schools and colleges with their families, are now flocking to Rangpur city with huge excitement to watch the ‘Alpana’ paintings in a festive mood. Jeevan Ghosh, founder of ‘We for Them’ said, “The four roads designated by the district administration for drawing ‘Alpana’, are associated with the history of different national movements and the War of Independence.”

“We have tried to express the emotions, memories and grief of the Great War of Liberation in the colours of ‘Alpana’ to tell the story of our heritage and identity and true national history to the new generations,” he said.

Executive Magistrate of the district administration Mahmud Hasan Mridha said, the four roads have been painted with ‘Alpana’ colours to decorate Rangpur city colourfully on the occasion of celebrations of the golden jubilee of independence.
