Jonny Bairstow's 39-ball 72 and James Neesham's 3 for 5 helped Welsh Fire beat Southern Brave by 18 runs and jump to the second spot on the points table behind Trent Rockers. Meanwhile, Brave, who are yet to win a 100-ball match in this inaugural season of The Hundred, remained at the bottom of the table.

Sent in to bat, Bairstow had a slightly sluggish start to his innings, scoring the first 30 runs or so at run-a-ball.

Tom Banton's 34 had him covered though as the duo added 43 runs for the first wicket. Bairstow, who finished with 5 fours and 5 sixes, was joined by Ben Duckett with whom he added 116 runs for the second wicket and paved the way for a massive total of 165/4 on the board.

James Vince and Quinton de Kock got Brave to a quick start, with the latter scoring 21 runs off only 7 deliveries. De Kock fell to David Payne who picked 2 for 30 but it was Neesham who made the most difference in his 15-ball spell that included 10 dot balls and no boundaries. He picked the crucial wicket of captain Vince at the start and then returned to make an impact towards the end and render run-scoring difficult with his slower deliveries and yorkers on a responsive pitch.

Brief Scores: Welsh Fire 165/4 in 100 balls (Bairstow 72, Duckett 53; Danny Briggs 2-33) beat Southern Brave 147/7 in 100 balls (Vince 40, Neesham 3-5) by 18 runs
