Bangladesh Under-16 national women football team will leave for Thailand today with a high hope to make a winning start against Thailand in the AFC Cup Under-16 Championship final round to start from September 15.

Bangladesh will fly to Bangkok at 11.20 am today.

Bangladesh will play three practice matches against local age group team with Chonburi FC Women team on September 6 and 9 and Kasetsart University team on September 11.

Head coach Golam Rabbani Choton and captain Maria Manda in a press conference yesterday at the BFF Bhaban, put across expectations with their consecutive second time final round appearance.

Bangladesh played in the final round of this competition in 2017 where they had to face the Asian giants Australia, Japan and North Korea.

Bangladesh conceded defeats in all their three matches, apart from the first match against North Korea, they had closely contested encounters with Australia and Japan.

All these are the advantage of Bangladesh team, as Golam Rabbani Choton explained, “First time we were inexperienced to play against the big teams like, Korea, Japan and Australia  as first time appearance we did not too bad.”

“We lost to North Korea by 0-9 in the first match, rather than that we fought against Australia, though conceded 3-0 defeat but leading up to 78 minutes we went down to Japan,” said Choton.

“Whatever, it was our experience, now we are going with a team, who are more matured this time and well-prepared, have been taking nonstop preparation since the first round was held early of this year (February-March) in Myanmar.”

“Actually in the previous time we went in the final round when our players were not morally strong to play against the top stage in the AFC competition.”

“You know, Japan and Australia are among the supreme teams in Asia, if we can make a good start against the hosts Thailand, it would be huge boost up for the next matches,” Choton expressed about his high hope.

Choton also informed that they have 11 players in this squad experienced playing international matches in home and abroad when 12 players of last year are not in the team for the age bar,  players like Mousumi,  Sanjida, Krishna and some others.

Captain Maria Manda when expressed her expectation to make a winning start said, “We are going to final round for second time, we worked hard, we will try to play from the beginning, in fact we are going with high confidence.”

Mahfuza Akhter Kiron, FIFA and AFC executive committee member  and the chairman of the women’s committee, Paul Smally, technical and strategy director of BFF, team manager Amirul Islam Babu, Anwar Ehtesham, head of  communication and branding of Dhaka Bank also addressed in the press meet.
